You may find that one footage became DAT file on the memory card, although this DAT file shows a valid file size, maybe 8 GB or 20GB, it cannot be played, transcoded, or imported into editing software. In more severe cases, the DAT file may show 0 bytes and occupy no storage space. If you encounter this issue, do not worry. We have experience handling such problems.
We examined the DAT file code with a hexadecimal viewer, as shown in the snap below, it reveals that the file lacks an MP4 file header and MP4 encoding metadata. For this reason, the DAT file cannot be decoded by media players or imported into editing applications. Further inspection shows the file has video and audio stream data, this confirms that the DAT file contains raw, un muxed video audio data.
Since the DAT file has genuine raw video and audio stream data, how can we re mux it into a playable MP4?
First, you need to get the original recording parameters such as resolution and frame rate. This preserves the original image quality. Next, perform frame by frame parsing and muxing for the raw video audio streams. This ensures smooth playback with no bad frames and perfect audio video synchronization.
